I'd like to think that I've somehow earned the Chinese government's displeasure but I suspect the block has nothing to do with my previous writings about Chinese dissidents and efforts to thwart the censorship there... The more realistic cause is that they just block all blogs published by Wordpress, tho the fact that I have some Japanese content might also be a factor... Who knows?

Glad you've made it through and I hope your efforts find some reward... I'm trying to keep my pace at a brisk clip but suspect life will continuously intervene...

As for the choice of a small, young houseplant-- think of how unique and experience it must be for both parties... People have never been able to experience the maturation of a plant in this way before and a plant has never been able to share the process of growing with us... Imagine what the adolescent years will be like!

Speaking of sharing, it would interest me greatly if you had you own method of sharing life in Shanghai with us...

Hey Brendan,

I actually tried to look at your blog a couple days ago but it was not approved by the Great Firewall (perhaps you are a secret anti-Communist?). However, Peter told me how to sneak by and now I am reading...

I even signed up for bloglines so I hope you keep on updating! (I am a little puzzled by a plant blogger though, especially a small houseplant, it seems like they wouldn't have much life experience or interesting thoughts to contribute)
